Rose Paving Co., a leader in national parking lot management, has been named once again a Chicago Tribune Top Workplace in the small-sized company category for 2011, ranking #10. One hundred companies, organizations, and agencies were honored at an awards ceremony on November 14 hosted by the Chicago Tribune. The awards, given for measured qualities including company leadership, career opportunities, workplace flexibility, and compensation & benefits were presented to Chicago-area companies for the second straight year.

It’s an interesting “recovery” we are experiencing with the unemployment rate remaining stubbornly high — up to 9.1 percent at the end of May, and a bump up again to 9.2 percent at the end of June. Most will agree that the key indicators are moving in the wrong direction. GDP isn’t faring that well either. After a recovery hike in GDP in the second half of 2009 and 2010, we were back down below 2 percent for the first quarter 2011 — not enough to drive hiring — and due in large part to a slowdown in consumer and government spending.
